FAQ

Q. How long will it take to paint this masterpiece? What if we finish quickly?

A. Each session includes my guidance for up to a two hour painting experience with your child ending with a completed canvas. This two hour window includes set up, planning with the children, the painting process and clean up time.

Q. What does the host need to provide?

A. Garages work best for your young artist's workspace.  We will need to be able to stand the canvas upright against a wall and lay it flat throughout the creation process.  We will need to have access to a light source to properly see, as well as water for washing brushes. I will bring all necessary plastic coverings, drop cloths, painter’s tape, wipes and other items needed for set up, painting and clean up.

Q. Do you use washable paint? What should the children wear?

A. Abbstract Originals uses acrylic paints. This is non washable paint and will stain clothes. Please have your child wear paint friendly clothes that are ok to get messy. I will provide smocks as well.

Q. How many children can paint one canvas? Can my child paint with a friend?

A. Depending on the size of the canvas, multiple children can paint together. Up to three children can typically paint together. For children under 4, it is most successful to have one child paint at a time.

Q. Can we have multiple children painting multiple canvases at once?

A. In order to keep the integrity of the process, only one canvas is painted at a time.

Q. Can we paint an additional canvas during our session?

A. In order to book your session, you will need to select one of the packages listed on the Process page.  Should you choose to have a second canvas painted during your session, there would be an additional $275 fee to cover the second canvas and paint costs (from Package A), plus an additional hour of session time. If additional painting time is needed beyond the extended 3 hour session, there will be a $150 charge per hour. Please note that additional charges will be added to any second canvases selected from Packages B or C as the pricing varies.

Q. What is your cancellation or refund policy?

A. There is a nonrefundable deposit of $250 to book your session. All remaining payments must be made in full within one (1) week of your session date and time. One week advance notice is required to reschedule any session dates and times, otherwise your deposit will be forfeited. Your rescheduled session must take place within 60 days of your originally booked date and time in order to apply your deposit to your total.

Q.What if I am not satisfied with my canvas or my child does not want to finish the project within the two hour time frame?

A. This service is intended to be a special experience for your child.  In the event that your child does not want to continue during the two hours, you may choose to have me complete the canvas or end the services at that point.  Each session only includes painting time for up to two hours on the scheduled date and a completed canvas. If you choose to add more time to the 2 hour session, there will be an additional fee of $150 per hour.  There are no refunds if you choose not to display your child's work or are unsatisfied with their completed canvas. All canvases will be left to dry on plastic that can be disposed of the following day. If there are any potential touch ups needed, I will leave you with the paint necessary to do so.  All additional “day of” services added on must be made in full on the session date.

Q. Can I submit an inspiration picture?

A. Absolutely! In order to create artwork that works for your home, it is helpful we communicate through email before the session to select the desired color pallet, style and canvas size to work with.  I will send you suggested paint colors or you can make specific requests. You may also provide photos of artwork styles you find inspiring.

Q. How do I pay? Do you take Venmo?

A. I accept cash or venmo payments @A-Cowan

Q. Do you only help create abstract styles?

A. I help guide your child's creativity by providing him/her with a blank canvas to transform into an abstract masterpiece perfect for any home.  All artwork is one of a kind, created by your child & intended to represent the style of a professional piece that you may purchase at a gallery or your favorite home store.  Due to the open ended creativity process of your children, the style of artwork will be abstract.

Q. When do I get my painting?

A. All canvases will be left to dry on plastic that can be disposed of the following day.  If there are any potential touch ups needed, I will leave you with the paint necessary to do so.

Q. Do you charge for travel?

A. I will travel up to 15 miles from Torrance.  For locations over 15 miles, please contact me for travel rates.

Q. Do you offer gift certificates?

A. Yes!  Abbstract Originals is perfect for a holiday, birthday or housewarming gift.  After payments are made in full, you can choose to pick up a beautifully packaged gift card or have a special email sent to the recipent. Both options can include a personalized note from you and will have the necessary details for booking.

Q. Do you offering framing?  Any suggestions for hanging my canvas?
